West Country Games

If Welly-Wanging, Cider-running, Vicky Pollard-style Sumo Wrestling and Pelting The Wurzels with high-speed projectiles sounds like arguably a rather random yet undoubtedly hilarious time, then Bristol's West Country Games would probably be right up your street! Located on the working Gatcombe Farm, between Long Ashton and Backwell and just minutes outside Bristol, West Country Games has now been operating for over three years.

For £37 per person, you and your fellow Hens or Stags can enjoy the refreshing West Country air and the county's most hilarious activities for between 2 and 3 hours. Your group will be accompanied by a knowledgeable assistant, who will keep track of your scores and reward a prize to the winner at the end! After all this fervour, you are most welcome to enjoy a fine sample of West Country cuisine at Gatcombe Farm's own on-site restaurant.

About

The innovative West Country Games was set up by indomitable West Country rustic enthusiasts Simon and Jamie back in 2010. The company is a direct result of their determination to become more involved with their local countryside, and to celebrate the traditional roots of the West Country in a lighthearted and accessible manner.

As of 2013, West Country Games has been relocated to the larger and more ample Gatcombe Farm, just outside Long Ashton. This enables large groups of Hens and Stags to come from far and wide to indulge in funny games, accompanied by ponies, cows, ducks, ostriches, geese, alpacas and a terrific on-site shop and restaurant.

The Games

The West Country Games team showcase a whopping nine extremely entertaining and hilarious games. Make sure you bring your best West Country yokel costume - it will make all the difference.

The Cider Run

No West Country experience would be complete without cider. Add a bungee-run to the mix, and you have a brilliant excuse for flinging yourself about the place!

Wurzel Knockout

If you have ever found the Wurzels a little irritating, or just fancy launching a good ol' cider apple from 'tween your legs, this brilliant game will have you in stitches. Lie on your back, and launch balls at cut-out Wurzels with leg-powered catapults.

Vicky Pollard Handbags

Wrestle and hurl Burberry handbags around decked out in Vicky Pollard sumo suits.

Drunk Pub Skittles

Another West Country favourite, this game will require that you run round and round a fixed point in order to simulate having a few ciders in the system, before attempting a game of skittles!

Farmer's Shower

Described as something similar to Mastermind but much, much wetter, the Farmer's Shower will have you and your friends subjected to torture as you wait for an ice-cold bucket of water to be emptied upon your noggin.

Mangold Dangling

Inspired by a traditional West Country pastime, here one lucky individual is given the opportunity to knock their friends off precarious platforms. A great way for the Hen or Stag to exact revenge on their friends!

Other Games

Other games include Wellington boot-tossing in Welly-Wanging, tractor tyre-tipping in the Tractor Tyre Roll Triumph, and fighting "to the death" in the Pitchfork Duel.

Service

The glamorous West Country Games chief farmer and his charming assistants will look after you and your group for the entirety of the morning. These lovely guys and girls will keep you entertained, keep a track of the scores (this is a competition, after all) and provide a mystery prize to the winner at the end of the activities.

The Stag or Hen will then be provided with an obligatory and ridiculous West Country costume in a farmyard animal theme.

Photography

If you are worried about capturing these memories forever, then don't worry - the West Country Games team are dabhands at photography and will always take pictures of the event and send the images through at a later date. The photos are pretty much guaranteed to go down well in a wedding-day slideshow!

Food

West Country Games operates in close conjunction with Gatcombe Farm's on-site restaurant, where you can enjoy local delights, such as a ploughman's-style West Country picnic, a mouthwatering carvery or a West Country pie and chips. All this to the accompaniment of a very locally-brewed cider.
