About
Wadhurst Castle is a Regency castle built in 1818-20 on the site of a much older house. It was remodelled to its present appearance in 1838 by the architect Edward Buckton Lamb. The castle is set in an elevated position with magnificent panoramic views of the Sussex countryside.
In 1933 the castle was badly damaged by fire and repaired by Alfred Matthews. During the Second World War it was commandeered for use by the Canadian Army. In 1955 the Fitzgerald family purchased the castle and it remains in the joint ownership of the Fitzgerald and Clough families today.
The castle has been extensively restored and is now a popular wedding and event venue. It also features a commercial kitchen, upgraded car park and access, and a modern function suite in the converted Victorian Barn.
