About
The star of the show of this venue is the vaulted Crypt that dates back to 1325 AD. It owes its origin to a chamberlain of the priory during the time of Bishop Gundulph. The building burnt down in 1768 and the structure that stands today was built over the top of the vault. The 14th century vault was only rediscovered in 2002 and since then has become a popular tourist attraction that demonstrates architecture that would have been a tunnel passage to Rochester Castle and Cathedral.
Facilities
There are some fantastic spaces to host your entire day. Of course, the 14th century crypt is the main attraction, steeped in character with its smooth arches and a roof tall enough you can walk under but low enough to make you, your partner and your guests feel like the only people on the earth at that moment. It's truly a unique and special place. To get technical the chamber is 54ft long, 16ft wide and 11ft high with 4 quadripartite vaults, the shell of the vault being made up of chalk ashlars. There are ribs on the groins with 9 carved ornamental bosses at the intersections.
For those daytime and evening celebrations there are a couple of function spaces to dine or dance the night away. The Lounge Bar is a modern area with comfortable seating for you to take a moment rest or catch up with loved ones. The bar is just a step away serving catering for all your beverage requirements. Or for those who want something with a bit more space - and by a bit we mean another floor worth of space - The Affinity Bar would be perfect. Spanning two floors, this luxurious space consists of a lower floor that has an open ambience and an upper that is a little more private and relaxed.
