History

Known as Harty since 1610, this small hamlet holds a fascinating history that led to the creation of The Ferry House. Originally built in the 16th century, the building first served as a public house, becoming a central part of the island's close-knit community. While Harty's population remains small today, The Ferry House continues to flourish. Taken over by its current owners in 2000, it has grown into a charming waterside restaurant and wedding venue, blending its historic roots with modern elegance.

  • Wendy & Keith - August 2024

From the very first meeting at The Ferry House in 2021, we fell in love with the venue. The wedding team are all faultless, they are always on hand to answer any questions. Towards the final months, Sam became our wedding coordinator and was with us on the wedding day, seeing everything went smoothly. Which I can say it did! We had planned an outside wedding but due to the weather this wasn't possible, so we had the ceremony in the barn instead. Our wedding breakfast was in the Event Suite and looked absolutely amazing. The venue itself is picturesque and facilities are outstanding. The groom & groomsmen got ready in the Garden Lodge, myself and my bridal party got ready at Mocketts Farm Cottages that is also part of The Ferry House. We enjoyed every minute of our stay here. The food was outstanding, all the rooms that are available at The Ferry House are decorated to a very high standard. Coming down for breakfast with our guests the next morning really added to our special time spent at The Ferry House. We absolutely had the most amazing wedding and highly recommend this venue.

  • Lisa & George - August 2024

I don't even know where to start - The Ferry House was the perfect venue for our big day. Nothing was too much trouble and they made the whole process so easy. They decorated the venue with my DIY decorations without any issues, they answered my contact emails (crazy quickly!) and even put up with me doing everything last minute! The actual day itself, they were so helpful, excited for us and just made us feel amazing! The venue is just absolutely gorgeous - nearly every guest came up to us on the day to tell us how amazing it was and they honestly felt it was the best wedding they had been to! All thanks to The Ferry House. If we could do it all again we would both choose The Ferry House again in an instant.

  • Lucy & Dave - April 2024

Our wedding day was magical, it was perfect. Every single detail of the day was wonderful. We opted for the 2 day wedding package. This gave us the fantastic opportunity to celebrate with our family and closest friends and spread our wedding over a few days. The day before we had time to relax and settle into our stunning rooms (and be pampered with a massage) in the afternoon before spending the evening eating delicious food in the barn with our guests. In the run up to the wedding, our coordinator was great. No question was too silly. She made us feel so comfortable from the beginning to the end. In fact, every member of their staff were amazing to us, our children and all our guests. The staff at The Ferry House took the stress out of our wedding day and everything ran smoothly. The venue has a very rustic and warm feel, inside and outside. With the backdrop of the estuary and the stunning gardens (even at the beginning of spring they were beautiful) there were so many places to go for the perfect wedding photos. Every guest commented on the food - all either grown onsite or sourced locally. We can say with our hands on our hearts, that our wedding was the best day of our lives - truly magical.

  • Harriet & Tom - April 2024

The best team of people you could ask for! Every single person we spoke with was so helpful and lovely to deal with. They made our day so special and run seamlessly! We couldn't have asked for a better team! The food and drink is the best around, locally sourced making it taste so much better! And the views, away from everything so you can really soak in the day with your loved ones with no distractions! Couldn't ask for more.
