The Bristol String Quartet

Some people think of string quartets as a rather stuffy and overly rigid addition to a formal occasion. The Bristol String Quartet effortlessly shatter this illusion with their talented, young, fresh-faced and flexible attitude towards playing at social events such as weddings. Having performed at hundreds of venues in the Bath and Bristol areas, the vast majority of these on behalf of brides and grooms on their special day, this gifted bunch have a great deal to offer those looking for a classical ensemble.

With a wide repertoire of miscellaneous musical items under their belts – not just restricted to classical music – many happy previous clients of the ensemble have commented on The Bristol String Quartet's accommodating, personal and flexible manner of working. Traditionally comprised of two violins, a viola and a 'cello, this quartet promotes a wonderfully classy, sophisticated atmosphere when required.

The full-time group of performers have worked as session musicians for the likes of Peter Gabriel, Jim Moray, Kula Shaker and Rob Bray.

This classical ensemble is a multi-talented and experienced group with a number of accolades and impressive associations.

Repertoire

The Bristol String Quartet's repertoire spans a surprising number of musical styles, genres and generations.

The ensemble's classical favourites include Handel's 'The Water Music', Mozart's 'Divertimenti' and of course, Mendelssohn's 'Wedding March' - all enhanced by the Bristol String Quartet's highly precise and extensive classical training.

Modern Music

String quartets don't always have to stick to exactly 'what it says on the tin'. The Bristol String Quartet has often received positive comments on their ability and enthusiasm to play modern material, from 20th-century popular classics such as The Beatles' Hey Jude, Sinatra's My Way and Eric Clapton's Layla, to even more modern hits such as Lady Gaga's Paparrazi, Coldplay's Yellow and Elbow's One Day like This.

Step into the more humorous renditions of modern music - nothing can quite match The Bristol String Quartet's rendition of Metallica's Nothing Else Matters or even Bob Marley's I Shot the Sherriff.

Special Arrangements

If you'd like a specific song or piece of music to be played at your wedding (whether modern or older), it's likely already to be a part of their repertoire - if it's not, then don't hesitate to request it, as this quartet are open to arranging pieces especially for you!

Listen

Classical ensembles such as The Bristol String Quartet are ideally suited to playing during a number of stages of a typical wedding ceremony and reception. Granted the additional benefit of presenting an eminently respectable musical type, they are often welcomed into churches and other religious buildingswith little trouble.

The Bristol String Quartet have often been asked to play suitable music while guests are assembling in readiness for the wedding ceremony to begin, the fanfare for the processional, the signing of the register, the recessional, for the drinks reception, while formal photographs are taken and again throughout the wedding breakfast.
