History
This fascinating and traditional-looking Grade II-listed building used to be an old coaching inn, and offered a welcome respite for weary travellers braving the long, slow, uncomfortable and hazardous road from London.
Created during the 17th century, the inn became an important part of the affluent Niblett family's 'Carrying' business. With many refurbishments occurring through the subsequent centuries, the inn has recently been restored and enhanced to the excellent and unique form that it presents today.
The exterior of the building retains all the rustic charm of an old coaching inn, and the interior of the venue well and truly embraces rural and countryside ideals - as far as featuring a high proportion of fabrics and patterns inspired by the celebrated Arts and Crafts Movement, and much of 19th-century artist William Morris' distinctive floral and nature-influenced work.
The hotel is part of the Cotswolds Inns and Hotels Group, who own other historic hotels and venues across the area, including The Swan Hotel, The Manor House Hotel and The Bay Tree Hotel
