This stunning 18th century manor house is set within Stanmer Park, a lush and expansive green space nestled between Brighton and the South Downs. Constructed in the mid-1700s, this grand country house is now a restaurant and an exclusive-use wedding venue and is ideal for couples looking for a blend of town and country for their big day.
This grand and perfectly preserved example of Palladian architecture was lovingly and stylishly restored in 2006, ensuring the house's return to its former glory. Once home to the prominent Pelham family, Stanmer House can now host weddings of up to 300 guests within its house and ample gardens.
Stanmer House and its estate were purchased by Henry Pelham, Britain's third Prime Minister, in 1713. The Pelham family commissioned architect, Nicholas Dubois, to construct the house that now stands within the grounds and which was home to the Pelham family for some 230 years.
Sold to the Brighton Corporation in 1947, the park opened to the pubic six years later. The manor house itself was restored in 2006 and is now owned at operated by Proud venues.
From its position on the first floor, the Marlborough Room's large windows boast views over Stanmer House's grounds whilst letting in plenty of natural light. It's the perfect space for smaller ceremonies and receptions.

AddressWhilst trying to organise our wedding within a 4 weeks period, other venues questioned how we would put it all together in time, offering very little help or organisation. Arriving at Stanmer House following a simple phone call enquiry to identify the date availability we were greeted by the events team who were all so accommodating and helpful, nothing was too big or too small to organise. The events team helped in all areas, giving us assistance in making decisions at short notice.
We went with canapes on arrival, followed by a BBQ which was amazing. My very dear friend organised an ice-cream van plus face painting which again the Events Team embraced with no bother. We had a large band in the evening again the events team welcomed and assisted. The decor was to taste and immaculate. All the team working on the day/evening were so attentive and friendly.
We chose to have our wedding reception at Stanmer park house, as my parents were married in the church nearly 50 years ago. We did not regret our choice in the slightest. Dania, the Wedding coordinator, was the absolute professional. She made Mum & Dad comfortable, guided where needed and organised all requests made. Nothing was ever too much trouble and her communication was faultless, which was obviously very important to us being so far away. On the night, the marquee was breath taking. All of our entertainments were placed so the space was maximised and despite there being an event in there the day before, access was never an issue. Car parking was reserved where we requested and despite the restaurant in the manor house being popular and busy, the event was separated enough that space was not an issue. The combination of the marquee, with the outside courtyard was perfect. Our guests and us alike are exceptionally happy with all elements providing smiles and laughter throughout the evening.
What an amazing place! So beautiful, well organised, clean and professional. From the moment we met Chelsea, we knew our wedding would be perfect and it was. She planned it to our dreams and more. Completely faultless. Communication was the key and all our expectations was met due to this. Never wanted to leave! Most weddings are exhausting but this made us feel stress free. I would like to think my wife and I will have children and they will also get married here as a tradition.
