Prior Park

Sitting proudly atop the world-famous Prior Park Landscape Garden, this fascinating Grade I-listed mansion gazes out across an admirable view of the World Heritage Site of Bath. Built in the 18th century by the legendary John Wood the Elder, the mansion is now a college, but is opening its doors to couples looking for an outstanding place to host the wedding reception of their dreams.

On the quiet outskirts of the historic city, imagine you and your guests having exclusive access to this beautiful building, arriving via the private drive and overlooking the popular gardens and lake. Alighting from their vehicles, which they can park for nothing, your guests enter the house via the impressive portico, where they can be handed a glass of sparkling champagne - sheer bliss.

History

Prior Park House was constructed and its grounds laid out in 1742 to a design by renowned Bath architect John Wood the Elder, famously creator of The Circus, Queen Square and other classical masterpieces, for the affluent local entrepreneur Ralph Allen.

The house was a showcase for the excellent qualities of the local golden Bath stone - "To See All Bath, and For All Bath To See".

Peter Augustine Baines purchased the mansion in 1828 and set to work creating two college wings, thereby beginning its history as an educational establishment. Today Prior Park College is a mixed Roman Catholic public school for day and boarding pupils.

Facilities

Prior Park Mansion offers five unique spaces in which you can host the various parts of your wedding-day reception celebrations.
