Begun in the early 17th century, the original late Tudor structure has undergone drastic modifications and alterations in the four centuries or so since Bradbourne House was built. Most of this modification was carried out during the 18th century, when the house was extended into the grand mansion that stands today.
Established, owned and protected by a single Kentish family - the Twisdens - for almost 400 years, Bradbourne House Estate was eventually purchased by The East Malling Trust, who still continue to own and run the property. This charity organisation oversees the day-to-day care and operation of the house, as well as landscaping and protecting the surrounding woodland.
