Bowood's estate was originally bought by John Petty Fitzmaurice, 1st Earl of Shelburne from the crown in 1754, and his family have resided here ever since. It was John Petty's son, William, who gained the title of Marquess of Lansdowne for the family, after negotiating peace with America after the War of Independence.
Today Charles Maurice and Fiona, 9th Marquis and Marchioness of Lansdowne, enjoy the property as their principal residence.

Ella lee was an amazing Wedding Co-ordinator and Michael, who was with us all day, couldn't of been any more helpful and attentive.
Our day was excellent, the staff were very attentive but not in your face, which made our day extra special. We found Ella to be professional and helpful in all respects. We would recommend her services to anyone. The maser off ceremonies was attentive and always on hand to help when needed. All the staff were excellent and helpful. The food was perfect and all guests enjoyed their meals. We would recommend the venue to anyone. We got good value and a lot more than we expected.
Brilliant day. Michael ensured everything went to plan, he was really helpful all day. Ella has been the most helpful and supportive wedding co-ordinator we could have asked for. She made organising our wedding so easy. She was always accessible by email or phone through the whole year that we worked with her and nothing was too much effort. I cannot thank Ella enough for the support she has given us leading up to and on our big day, she is a credit to Bowood and I would highly recommend her to all of my friends and family. Michael was a star and was very welcoming. He was reassuring and supportive throughout the whole day. Lovely venue, lovely location, lovely team. Thank you for giving us such a memorable day.
