The impressive family-owned Georgian manor house was constructed during the late 18th century, lending a certain historical charisma to the picturesque and serene gardens.

The building enjoys the rare distinction of a Grade II*-listing, meaning it exhibits exemplary architecture or historic features worthy of note. There's also another listed building set in the grounds, the Summer House, once serving as a 'brewhouse'.

Barnston Lodge has been featured as the setting for numerous films and TV dramas, particularly the detective series 'Lovejoy', the majority of which of course was shot around the local area.

Facilities

Barnston Lodge is primarily an outdoor venue, so brides and grooms are encouraged to invite a marquee specialist of their choice (or ask for a recommendation) to set up their very own space in the stunning gardens. Couples have opted for all sorts in the past, from traditional marquees to tipis and other tents.

The Gardens

The gardens and grounds, with their ancient trees and lovely original rose varieties, also feature a lake, whose cute little jetty beckons invitingly for some ideal photography opportunities.

Summer House

Also a listed structure, the little timber-framed outbuilding at the end of the garden is thought to have once been a brewhouse.

Although there is no accommodation at Barnston Lodge, there is plenty to be found in the immediate surrounding areas, from B&Bs to hotels, guesthouses and budget motels, thanks to the proximity of Stansted Airport, a mere 10 minutes' drive away.
