About

Atelier 19 functions as the bridal boutique and studio of the award winning designer, Jan Knibbs. Jan is inspired by classic, vintage styles and fabrics to create stunningly unique designs, perfect for any occasion.

Based in the West Country, Jan is a fashion and textile designer who specialises in couture embroidery. Jan is a winner of the British Bridal Awards in the embroidery category, has twice come 2nd place in the international Hand and Lock Prize for Embroidery and has even won the Swarovski Prize.

Working with Jan is the incredible, Gemma Sangwine, creating breath-taking tiaras and headpieces often from vintage costume jewellery and feathers which complement Jan's designs perfectly. Between them they can cover your entire outfit as Jan even offers bespoke embroidered shoes to make sure everything from top to toe co-ordinates. This can also save you time, effort and stress leading up to your special day.

The Dresses

An expert in her field, Jan is able to either create an entirely bespoke wedding dress for you, or to customise and upgrade a dress that you may already own. Taking her inspiration from nature, in particular the changing seasons, Jan is able to add subtle floral imagery to the design, often incorporating vintage fabrics and antique lace into the design to create something that is truly unique.

Jan's devotion to incorporating vintage and preloved materials for her label 'something old...something new' make her designs particularly suited to vintage, fairytale, rustic, fantasy or bohemian styled weddings. She can also incorporate personal touches such as a relative's wedding dress or veil making it individual to the bride herself.

In fact, most of Jan's dresses and accessories are made with an emphasis on using recycled, sustainable or vintage materials which also makes them more ethical.

Services

Before starting your journey Jan will meet with you to discuss your ideas, themes and requirements for your dress and/or accessories. She will then come up with a design and, with your input, choose the perfect materials for everything. A toile mock-up will then be made by one of Jan's seamstresses, to ensure a perfect fit. Jan is also able to design additional accessories for your outfit or add stunning embroidered finishing touches to any accessories that you might already have.

Accessories

Jan's fellow designer, Gemma Sangwine is responsible for creating stunning tiaras and headpieces for their brides and both designers frequently include personal touches, adding sentiment to a flawless design. This can be anything from incorporating a beloved family heirloom to using materials sourced by the bride or groom.

Jewellery

Jan is also able to make breath-taking necklaces, earrings and wristbands to match in her distinctive style. These will often incorporate gems, lace, buttons and of course Jan's signature intricate embroidery.
