About

Established over 250 years ago in 1765 by the first Countess of Ilchester as a kitchen garden for her nearby castle, Abbotsbury Subtropical Gardens expanded rapidly 50 years later when the third Earl of Ilchester began a major programme of woodland planting.

The gardens now cover 30 acres of land and host thousands of various types of plants from around the world. Following a destructive storm in 1990, the gardens have undergone extensive restoration and refurbishment, and are now fully licensed for weddings within their beautiful garden gazebo.

Host your ceremony amongst all of Abbotsbury's outstanding natural splendour on the West Lawn, where there is ample space for your

guests to be seated, and where you can tie the knot underneath their garden gazebo.

Receptions Within the New Marquee

Abbotsbury's brand new, purpose-built marquee is now available as the perfect venue for your wedding reception. The structure is now a permanent fixture within the gardens and has a built-in wooden floor, perfect for dancing, as well as a kitchen annexe where your food can be prepared.

Catering

Abbotsbury has teamed up with Nick Holt of the award-winning Dorset Fine Dining to provide catering for all weddings happening in the gardens. Couples can consult with Nick personally regarding their menu options.

Catering costs are not included in the total hire cost of the venue.

Accommodation

Located 2 miles up the road from Abbotsbury Subtropical Gardens, Wears Farm comprises three luxury, 5-star rated self-catering cottages. These cottages can accommodate up to 20 guests, perfect for the bridal party and immediate family. For the rest of your guests, there are plenty of hotel and B&B options in the area.

Accommodation costs at Wears Farm are not included in the total hire cost of the venue.
